Private Residence, Montreal

The residence, a gracious home surrounded by lovely gardens, is in the Westmount section of Montreal. Working with a designer from Montreal, I learned that the client needed carpet runners to coordinate with the existing Fornasetti rugs in the home. He expressed a desire for runners that would not need to be replaced, so I recommended 200 knot hand-knotted New Zealand wool. This quality is incredibly dense, with 200 knots per square inch; also, New Zealand wool is strong, and it’s easy to clean. The rugs were knotted in a cut pile three millimeters in height.

The pattern coordinates with the Fornasetti rugs in both color and design. For the lower level, I varied the pattern, using a checkerboard effect for more interest.

I went to the client’s home for the installation, and I brought a highly experienced installer from the NYC area. The result was a quality installation whose beauty will last and last. We are currently making a hand-tufted rug for the master bath. Because of the unusual shape of the rug, I had a template made to ensure that the rug would be close to the wash basins and the tub, but would allow enough space for the doors to the shower and closet to open freely.

I love working with clients who are open to the use of color, and who understand and appreciate the value of a custom-made rug.
